Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of The Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), issued the following statement on the passing of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks:

“We are devastated by the passing of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, a visionary and fearless leader, scholar and monumental figure who was at the epicentre of the Jewish world for decades.

Rabbi Sack’s inspiring writings and speeches had a profound impact on countless people around the world, and we cannot overestimate his courage, astute wisdom and influence.

Rabbi Sacks was deeply committed to civil rights and equality, and to fighting antisemitism, and his work has long inspired and informed the ADC’s mission. Rabbi Sacks was a tireless champion for interreligious dialogue and built enduring bridges of understanding and respect between faith communities.

As we extend our condolences to Rabbi Sack’s family and mourn his passing, we also rededicate ourselves to continuing to fight for the causes to which he devoted his life.

His generosity of spirit, teachings, humanity and compassionate voice will live on and will be cherished for many generations to come.”
