ADC deeply troubled by omission of the 6 million Jewish victims from President Trump’s statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading organisation fighting anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms, has expressed its deep concern about the omission of the 6 million Jewish victims of the Nazis from President Trump’s statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“It was disappointing and hurtful that in his presidential statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, President Trump failed to specifically mention the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust and the anti-Semitism that led to this catastrophe. Yes, there were non-Jews that perished at the hands of the Nazis, but the Jewish people were the only group that was targeted for total annihilation by Hitler’s Final Solution. The Nazi genocide perpetrated against the Jewish people should have been reflected in the statement, and we urge President Trump to ensure that in future statements he directly references the Jewish people as the victims of this unprecedented genocide. This will not only recognise the singular and defining element of the Shoah, but will aid in combatting global anti-Semitism and in promoting Holocaust education.”

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading civil rights organization fighting racism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
