ADC condemns racist posters seeking to vilify and intimidate Chinese students at Monash University

The ADC, Australia’s leading organisation fighting hatred in all its forms, has denounced the appearance of more than 20 anti-Chinese posters distributed across the Monash Clayton Campus which read, “This is a no-go zone for the Chinese and if you step in then you will be deported.”

ADC Chairman, Dr Dvir Abramovich, issued the following statement:

“We deplore in the strongest possible terms this unacceptable outburst of prejudice-fuelled behaviour. I am increasingly concerned about the tide of bigotry and anti-immigrant fervour that is  reaching fever pitch. We are better as a nation than these slurs, smears and insults. In addition to the individual students directly targeted, such troubling  attacks deeply affect the entire community and leaves it feeling vulnerable. Students of all faiths, nationalities, and ethnicities should feel secure being on university campuses without the fear or threat of being targeted for such vilification and intimidation. As Jews, we know all too well what it is like to be targeted by acts of racism, and we are proud to stand in solidarity with the Chinese community.”
