The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading organisation fighting anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms, has applauded the new sanctions against Iran imposed by the Trump administration as a response to Iran’s test firing of a ballistic missile, in violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231. The 2015 Security Council resolution called “upon Iran not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology.” It prohibits Iran from conducting ballistic missile tests until 2023. The sanctions announced target 13 individuals and 12 entities connected with Iran’s ballistic missile program and its continuous support for terror.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:
“We know that Iran is the world’s key state sponsor of terrorism and that it is spreading its influence across the Middle-East. Iran has repeatedly violated U.N resolutions and thumbed its nose at the international community. We welcome the swift and strong action taken by the US Treasury Department in sending a clear signal to the Iranian regime that it will be held accountable for its illicit conduct and for posing a dangerous threat to global and regional security. The ADC hopes that other nations follow the American example and take similar measures.”
The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading civil rights organization fighting racism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
