ADC: ADF contract with Elbit is a significant blow to the Australian BDS movement

The ADC has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Defence Industry, Christopher Pyne MP and Minister for Defence, Senator Marise Payne of the approval of the 1.4 billion Land 200 Tranche 2 Project in which Elbit Systems of Australia will enhance the Battle Management System software.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“We welcome and applaud this announcement which further strengthens the partnership between the Australian government, Elbit and Israeli industry. This collaboration is a dramatic blow to the BDS movement in Australia which for years has been targeting Elbit for boycott. In fact, The Australia Palestine Advocacy Network has specifically singled out Elbit, and The Palestinian Support Network Australia is still campaigning on its Reject Elbit platform. This contract sends an unequivocal message that the discriminatory and extreme effort to delegitimise and demonise Israel will not find a home within the Australian government. Still, the forces determined to Isolate Israel are broadening their strategy in reaching out to the public, and are using different forums, including universities, to attack the Jewish state and to normalise this irrational and poisonous discourse. Therefore, the ADC will continue to be at the forefront of efforts to defeat this rhetoric and to combat this dark agenda that contributes to an atmosphere which justifies an attack on the Jewish community.”
