ADC welcomes Victorian Liberal State Council resolution that calls for the relocation of the Australian embassy to Jerusalem

Today, Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement in response to the adoption by the Victorian Liberal State Council of a resolution calling on the Federal government to move its embassy to Jerusalem. In moving the motion, Kate Ashmor quoted from an op-ed written by Dr Abramovich.

“I applaud this resolution which rightly acknowledges the indisputable reality that Jerusalem is the capital city of Israel and in doing so grants the Jewish state the respect accorded to other nations. It also highlights the hypocritical and discriminatory double standards at play whereby Israel is the only country that is forced to deal with the denial of its sovereign right to decide where its capital city should be. The Jewish people have an ancient and unbreakable bond with the holy city, and just as Athens is the capital of Greece, Beirut is the capital of Lebanon, and Paris is the capital of France, so too is Jerusalem the capital of Israel. We call on the Federal government to adopt this resolution and to move its embassy to Jerusalem.”
