B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission mourns the passing of Righteous Amongst the Nations Constance Koster

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has mourned the passing of Mrs. Constance Koster who while serving in the Dutch resistance saved 800 Jewish children in Nazi-occupied Netherlands during the Holocaust. She died in Melbourne aged 95. Last year, she was honoured by the Jewish Holocaust Centre for her bravery.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chair of The Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), issued the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Constance Koster who was a beacon of light during the darkness of the Holocaust. An inspiration to us all, she stood up in the name of conscience and compassion to save the lives of hundreds of children. In several ways, her incalculable bravery exemplifies the Jewish dictum that “whoever saves one life saves the world entire”, and her inspiring story is a teachable moment for present and future generations about the importance  of stepping forward in times of moral crisis and doing whatever is necessary to prevent the murder of innocent people.  Her fearless conduct demonstrates what a difference one individual can make. She will be sorely missed and will forever live in our hearts. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, to the children she rescued and to descendants of those children.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
