The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading organisation combatting anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms, has welcomed Donald Trump’s disavowal of the anti-Semitic comments made by former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard David Duke. On his radio program, Duke said, “I think these Jewish extremists have made a terribly crazy miscalculation because all they’re really going to be doing by doing the ‘Never Trump’ movement is exposing their alien, their anti-American-majority position to all the Republicans. And they’re going to push people more into awareness that the neo-cons are the problem, that these Jewish supremacists who control our country are the real problem and the reason why America is not great.”
In response, Mr Trump stated that, “Antisemitism has no place our society, which needs to be united, not divided.”
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chair of The ADC, issued the following statement:
“We are pleased that Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, has now disavowed David Duke’s anti-Semitic rant and we hope that he encourages his supporters to confront and denounce anyone who spews such repugnant and destructive rhetoric against any minority. As we have said on numerous times, is it vital that leaders from all sides of politics make it clear that all types of bigotry and racial and religious hatred have no place in our society, and violate the fundamental values of inclusion, respect and tolerance that sustain and keep our communities strong.”
The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
