The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), Australia’s leading organisation combatting anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms, has welcomed the apology by David Murray for the comparison he made between the Australian Securities & Investments Commission and Hitler’s Third Reich. Following the ADC press release, denouncing the comparison, David Murray and ADC chairman Dr Dvir Abramovich discussed the matter on the phone. During the conversation, Dr Abramovich urged Mr Murray to retract his statement and to apologise which Mr Murray did an hour later.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, issued the following statement:
“David Murray did the right thing. I welcome his apology and pleased that he has disassociated himself from his hurtful remarks. We take him at his word that he genuinely regrets his unacceptable comparison and that he recognises that his comments were painful to the victims and to the survivors of Hitler’s genocidal regime. As far as I am concerned, the matter is closed. This episode is a reminder that we all have to be mindful of the dangers of employing Hitler references in the public square.”
The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
