The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has commended British Prime Minister David Cameron for his comments in Parliament this week acknowledging the dangerous rise in anti-Semitism in Britain and for his call for organisations to eradicate any strains of Jewish-hatred within their midst. The Prime Minister stated that, “Anti-Semitism is an absolute cancer in our societies and we should know that when it grows it is the signal of many even worse things happening to ethnic groups and different groups all over our country. There is sadly a growth of anti-Semitism in our country and we see it in terms of attacks on Jewish people and Jewish students and it absolutely has to be stamped out. We should all, all of us, whatever organisation we’re responsible for, make sure that happens.” Prime Minister Cameron also noted that there is a growth of anti-Semitism in “part of the Labour party and, I’d say to the leader opposite it’s his party, he should sort it out.”

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“We commend Prime Minister Cameron for once again sending a strong and resonant message about the present dangers of anti-Semitism and the urgent need to confront it head on wherever it is. For his personal and his government’s principled commitment, we convey our profound appreciation and thanks. The global surge of anti-Semitism and the alarming rise of murderous attacks and violence against European Jewry requires all heads of state and political parties to be at the forefront of those rejecting the evil of Jewish-hatred and setting a standard of moral leadership. The authority and resources of every level of government must be utilized to effectively address this growing menace and to ensure that all Jewish citizens can freely practice their faith without fear of prejudice or persecution.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
