The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has expressed its horror at the stabbing attack on Tziyon Saadon, a Jewish history teacher in Marseille. According to authorities, Saadon was stabbed on the street by three people declaring their support for Islamic State and uttering anti-Semitic slurs. One of the assailants was wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the ISIS logo, while another showed the victims a photo of Mohamed Merah who murdered a Rabbi and three Jewish children at the Ozar Hatorah school in Toulouse in 2012.
Dr. Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:
“Once again, we wake up to the troubling news that a Jewish person has been targeted for a despicable act of anti-Semitic violence. This is a tragic reminder of the threatening and frightening atmosphere for Jews in France. Sadly, physical attacks on Jews in Europe have become far too common, and given that virulent hatred for Jews is at the heart of radical Islamist ideology, this heinous assault is not surprising. In light of previous attacks, including the Toulouse and Hyper Cacher murders, and the Paris terrorist massacres, the French Jewish community is on high alert. We trust that the French government and law enforcement agencies will do everything in their power to ensure the community is secure and safe from harm. We also hope that the perpetrators will be swiftly apprehended and prosecuted to the full extent of the law”
