B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission joins Simon Wiesenthal Center in petitioning U.S congress to stop Iran from becoming a nuclear power

Iran nuclear deal

The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC)  has joined the Simon Wiesenthal Center in urging congressional leaders to stop Iran, the world’s leading terrorist state, from becoming a nuclear power by opposing the proposed agreement signed between Iran and the P5+1 earlier this month. The U.S Congress has sixty days to review the details of the agreement and to approve or reject the accords.

Parts of the letter, addressed to to John Boehner, Leader of the House, Mitch McConnell, US Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, US Senate Minority Leader and Nancy Pelosi, Ranking Minority Member, as well as other key congressional leaders reads:

This agreement confers legitimacy on the regime that has declared the destruction of the Jewish State, “non-negotiable” and that threatens the viability of America’s Arab allies. The end of sanctions was initially linked to the removal of Tehran’s nuclear infrastructure.  Instead, the agreement allows them to keep the majority of its nuclear infrastructure in place. The billions of dollars released will most certainly enable Iran to expand its support for Hezbollah and Hamas, and its growing terrorist network in the Americas. It is the height of folly and naiveté to believe that the Iranian regime will change its stripes in the next decade. Yet, no one denies that this agreement will enable the Iranians – even if they don’t cheat – to eventually acquire nuclear weapons and the ability to deliver them.

Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, issued the following statement:

“There is still time for congress to reject this flawed agreement and to work towards a better deal. As we have stated previously, we are enormously worried and disappointed by the accords reached and are troubled about Iran’s true intentions for its nuclear program. Given Iran’s chilling track record in so many areas, including support for the Assad regime and its murderous acts against its own people,  and its malevolent statements calling for the annihilation of Israel,  one is hard pressed not be sceptical about Iran f honouring the terms of the agreement. Just days prior to the signing of the agreement, on “al-Quds Day,” government inspired crowds called for “death to America,” and U.S. and Israeli flags were burned across the country.  We are deeply concerned that inspectors will never be granted managed, unfettered or spontaneous access, because Iran has continuously rejected this point all along.    According to the terms of the deal, the arms embargo is being lifted in five years, but the arms race will begin sooner than that, as other countries will begin stockpiling weapons. Sanctions that are being lifted now will never be reinstated, because it was too difficult to get full coalition approval the first time around. A close inspection of the terms of the deal  reveal that even some of the terrorism sanctions will be lifted because they will be classified as nuclear instead of non-nuclear. Tehran’s history underscores the likelihood that Iran will cheat again under this new deal.”
