The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has condemned a proposal by the Palestinian Football Association for a vote at the FIFA congress tosuspend Israel from international football.
ADC Chairman, Dr Dvir Abramovich, issued the following statement:
“Again, the Palestinian Authority is outrageously trying to isolate the Jewish state and to damage its standing among the family of nations. Consider that while FIFA members include some of the world’s most notorious tyrannies, there is no call for any other country to be expelled, except, of course, for Israel. It should be noted that this demonisation, defamation and double standard has been deemed as anti-Semitic by the US Department of State, and that in its working definition of anti-Semitism, The European Union Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia has said that the targeting of Israel could be regarded as a manifestation of anti-Semitism since it treats Israel as a Jewish collectivity. We therefore call on FIFA President Sepp Blatter and the international soccer community to reject this cynical and despicable campaign, and to say no to any attempt to use sport as a shameful political tool to delegitimize Israel and to turn it into a pariah state.”
