The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission has welcomed the announcement by Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel that his government will allocate specific funding for the implementation of proper security measures at Jewish institutions and that it will embrace a zero-tolerance law enforcement approach on anti-Semitic acts.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, issued the following statement:
“We have been very concerned about the virulently anti-Semitic atmosphere, incitement and murderous violence directed against Jewish communities in Europe and has continuously urged European governments to take real steps to fight this troubling phenomenon. Increasingly, Belgian Jewry has felt insecure about its personal safety, especially following the shooting at the Jewish Museum of Belgium and a series of revolting anti-Semitic incidents. We are pleased to hear that Prime Minister Michel has spoken out and repudiated those who are targeting Jews, and are heartened by this announcement of budgetary measures and by his reassurance to the Jewish community that it has the absolute support and protection of the state. It is the duty of all political leaders to stem the tide of this radical anti-Jewish hatred and to hold accountable the perpetrators of anti-Semitic acts.”
